Now that the layers are together it’s time to quilt. Sharon will take you through the various ways of machine quilting your projects so that you can get your projects completed more quickly. Start off using the walking foot and then move into free-motion quilting where you can incorporate circles, swirls, angular designs and even write your name with your machine needle. We will also touch on some basic quilt-as-you-go and appliquilt techniques.

   
  BINDING & HANGING SLEEVES

There are many different types of bindings to finish off your quilt with. Sharon will show you standard, French, scalloped, piped, machine-stitched and hand-sewn bindings. You will also learn how to figure out how many cut strips of binding you’ll need for each project. Get those quilts out of the cupboard and on the bed! (You may have time in class to start the binding for one of your other projects so bring all necessary supplies to class and she can help get you started.) As an added bonus, learn how easy it is to make hanging sleeves for your wall hangings.

As many of you know, our club membership has been closed for some time and yet the class continues to grow.  You'd almost think I couldn't say no!  Well, we've come to a solution.  Tuesdays we will have a basic Janome club for those that are new to their machine or perhaps like to learn at a a slower pace.  Thursdays we will kick it up a notch!  Both classes will be the same project.  The only difference will be that one is taught at a slower pace.  If you need help deciding which to participate in, speak to Shirley and she'll help advise you as to which class is right for you.

For the second part of this demo Linda will be introducing the Monogram Wizard. This simple to use computer program will enhance your abilities to do fun creative monogramming. With it’s 55 built in fonts, 18 layout styles, numerous lettering effects a monogram will never be just a monogram again.

REGISTRATION POLICY

Since our classes are very small we suggest that you register as early as possible to avoid disappointment. A deposit of not less than $20.00 must accompany each class registration. Our teachers come far and abroad and must be paid whether or not you attend the class. Therefore if you cannot make a class you must advise us no later than 48 hours prior to class; a class credit will be issued. Cancellation less than 48 hours is non-refundable. This policy is strictly enforced.

We do everything in our power to help you finish your class project. Please do your part. We are unique in the sense that we encourage you to come in for help between classes if you’re not sure how to proceed. Book some table space and work here if need be. All our staff is here to help, you only need to ask.

CLASS ETIQUETTE

Most important is to relax and have fun. We encourage that perfection not be your main goal. Perfection comes with time. Relax and learn the technique.

Please purchase class supplies at least 48 hours prior to class. This way, if we don’t have what you need or want we still have a chance to get it. We do have extra rotary cutters, rulers and boards available to borrow during class. Keep in mind that your own measuring tools have their own unique measure so if you have them, bring them.

We do not insist that you purchase your supplies at the Ultimate Sewing Centre. We do however appreciate it and show our appreciation with a generous class discount. Please take note that if your fabric is not the right type or flawed we cannot hold up the class correcting the problem. We will try, but there are other students to tend to. Ultimate Sewing Centre

is properly serviced. If servicing is required bring your machine in one week prior to class.

Unless otherwise told please bring to each class: Sewing Machine or Serger complete with foot control, lead cord and all accessories. Extra bobbins and needles, paper and fabric scissors, rotary cutter, all rulers, pins, seam ripper, marking tools, notepad and pen or pencil. It is just sew much more enjoyable to have all your tools at hand. Please mark you tools sew that you know what’s yours.

We do everything in our power to help you finish your class project. Please do your part. We are unique in the sense that we encourage you to come in for help if you’re not sure how to proceed. Book some table space and work here if need be. All our staff is here to help, you only need to ask. For quilting classes please understand that this class is for the quilt top only.  We have several “finishing classes”, and feel it redundant to repeat the finishing each class. For the garment classes you can expect to finish the garment, however, I wish to remind you that fit is not part of the class. We do offer fitting classes. This is pretty much the way all sewing studios operate, we just prefer to be up front sew there are no hidden surprises.

Coffee, tea and light refreshments are always available, if you are taking a full day class please pack a light lunch.
