Lately we have had several requests for beginner sewing classes
so Doreen has created this series of classes much like our
serger series to introduce beginners to sewing and re-connect
others to the modern world of machines and techniques.
Lined or unlined, create this zippy variation on the classic

combinations. Be even bolder and opt for your own uniquely
embellished version. Whatever you decide this jacket will be

This fun easy tote is made with screen mesh and three favourite
co-ordinating fabrics. Fun and easy it is finished in 1 day
ready to use all summer long. The pattern has measurements for 4
sizes- for picnics, vacations, beach toys or a magazine &
sunglasses. You'll want to make more than just one!
Create this beautiful wreath of flowers using just a few
fabrics. Create larger flowers with careful placement of small
squares. Seaming is so easy when the squares are on fusible
grid. A charming wall hanging for your home.

piecing. Learn rotary cutting techniques, strip piecing, chain
piecing and proper pressing techniques while creating this
striking interlocking pattern. Samples in the store include a

Frustrated with sewing garments that don’t fit right? In this
class you will learn how to correctly take body measurements,
check the fit of paper patterns and then make the necessary
adjustments for a better fit. Part of the class will involve
fitting a pattern, making alterations and then making the
garment up in muslin for a final fitting check. A great class
for those taking garment classes.

Time: 1p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
This class is a continuation of the first fitting class. You
will learn how to measure, fit and alter pants and skirt
patterns. Choose a pattern for a fitted skirt and/or dress
pants. Students will make a muslin to check the final fit.
Join Doreen in turning a plain sweatshirt into a designer spring
jacket. By selecting 4 to 6 different coordinating fabrics and
then embellishing with decorative stitches and techniques you
will create a truly one of a kind jacket.

We all have a stash that needs to be depleted to make room for
more fabric! You will make a wonderful twin size quilt (or
larger if you want to do more homework!) using half-square
triangles and one other fabric that will highlight all your
scraps and unify the whole piece. To get ready you can start
cutting your scraps into 5” squares right away! (5” square charm
packs are available for sale.)

If you are afraid of your serger, don’t know how to thread and
adjust tensions, this class is for you. Learn many of the basic
skills to mastering this machine.
Now that you know the basics of serging it’s time to start
experimenting with decorative threads and techniques. Use
embellishing threads to further your serging enjoyment.
This great quilt started out as our very first Mystery class.
Two separate blocks create a wonderful secondary design when
placed together. It's the type of design that will suit many
colour schemes. By using quick cutting, quick piecing and
special half-square triangle paper, you'll whip this one up in
no time!
The quilt is as the quilt is named. This is the ideal quilt for
a beginner wanting instant gratification. Two alternating blocks
set on point, a few borders and awesome quilting will make this
quilt a hit.
Using a cool new ruler by Lazy Girl Designs, makes putting this
quilt together a real breeze. This quilt is stunning putting a
twist on an old favourite, the log cabin. Great as a table
topper, bed quilt or table runner. The choice is yours.
This pretty quilt teaches lots of different techniques. The
flying geese are a breeze when using the new flying geese ruler
by Eleanor Burns. Soft pastels or bold. You’ll love it. This
quilt would be great as a quick to do project for gifts.
There are sew many feet that come with your machine to make
everyday tasks easier. There are also sew many optional feet
that make techniques easier to do. If only you knew which one
was for what! Well Doreen will help you take the mystery out of
feet and show you many embellishment techniques.
Recently in her travels Doreen came across a pattern for a
slightly fitted blocked jacket shirt. We immediately fell in
love with the jacket and knew we’d have to teach it. You’ll have
the option to line, bind or face your jacket. Be sure to take
Doreen’s fit class if you’re not sure about your unique body.

By incorporating fusible web, fusible batting and the
“appliquilt” technique, you will create a beautiful little
wallhanging in very little time. Using light, medium and dark
values, a great positive/negative design emerges that will
remind you of seaside vacations.

Dragonflies dart across fields of summertime colours. Fusible
web, machine appliqué and free-motion machine quilting are the
techniques used to create this beautiful table topper.

wallhanging or tablerunner. A variety of piecing, fast applique
and finishing techniques will give you a jump on holiday decor
or gifts.

Using the repeat of a medium to large scale fabric sets of four
identical squares are cut. Turning these yield an almost endless
variety of interesting blocks that are piece with simple seams.

We will start with Ricky Tims' convergence of 4 fabrics using
cutting, sewing & pressing skills. Then make it your own. Bring
your ideas and Maggie will help you work with them. We can add
pieced or applique work or both to make a truly unique &
personal wallhanging.

Take your favourite colours and go around the world with Tracey
doing this easier than it looks quilt. From lap to king you can
decide your size and using quick strip piecing methods create
this awesome quilt with ease.
This lovely wall hanging could also be a table topper. Use
embroidery, appliqué, bias tape or show of some ‘fancy quilting’
in the center square to “make it your own”. The long and short
of it is you will learn a lot!

Have you been intimidated by the term “art quilt”? Have you
admired them in quilt shows or in magazines and said to
yourself, “I could never do one of those!”? Well, yes you can!
Sharon will take you step by step through the process of making
your very own personal work of art. All you have to do is open
yourself up to new ideas, choose a colour scheme or theme and
Sharon will guide you the rest of the way. (Basic knowledge of
free-motion quilting is required.)
After the blocks are completed and put together, then what? Join
Sharon for an informative class on making the perfect border for
your special quilt and then putting all the layers together.
Whether you plan on hand- or machine-quilting your project, you
will learn the layering methods suitable for each technique.
MACHINE QUILTING

Now that the layers are together it’s time to quilt. Sharon will
take you through the various ways of machine quilting your
projects so that you can get your projects completed more
quickly. Start off using the walking foot and then move into
free-motion quilting where you can incorporate circles, swirls,
angular designs and even write your name with your machine
needle. We will also touch on some basic quilt-as-you-go and
appliquilt techniques.
There are many different types of bindings to finish off your
quilt with. Sharon will show you standard, French, scalloped,
piped, machine-stitched and hand-sewn bindings. You will also
learn how to figure out how many cut strips of binding you’ll
need for each project. Get those quilts out of the cupboard and
on the bed! (You may have time in class to start the binding for
one of your other projects so bring all necessary supplies to
class and she can help get you started.) As an added bonus,
learn how easy it is to make hanging sleeves for your wall
hangings.

As many of you know, our club membership has been closed for
some time and yet the class continues to grow. You'd
almost think I couldn't say no! Well, we've come to a
solution. Tuesdays we will have a basic Janome club for
those that are new to their machine or perhaps like to learn at
a a slower pace. Thursdays we will kick it up a notch!
Both classes will be the same project. The only difference
will be that one is taught at a slower pace. If you need
help deciding which to participate in, speak to Shirley and
she'll help advise you as to which class is right for you.

Assaulted Women's Helpline. They are a 24-hour
telephone and TTY crisis line for women in the province
of Ontario. They also speak to friends and family
members of abused women, service providers and other
professionals in contact with abused women. Please take

We love to embroider, we love to scrapbook, and we love our
pictures. Spend some time with James and learn how to combine
our hobbies to create either picture or a page for your
scrapbook.
Janome is proud to introduce the industries first professional
hooping system. Have Linda show you how accurately you can hoop
garments from jackets to baby socks. For the second part of this
demo Linda will be introducing the Monogram Wizard. This simple
to use computer program will enhance your abilities to do fun
creative monogramming. With it’s 55 built in fonts, 18 layout
styles, numerous lettering effects a monogram will never be just
a monogram again.
Since our classes are very small we suggest that you register as
early as possible to avoid disappointment. A deposit of not less
than $20.00 must accompany each class registration. Our teachers
come far and abroad and must be paid whether or not you attend
the class. Therefore if you cannot make a class you must advise
us no later than 48 hours prior to class; a class credit will be
issued. Cancellation less than 48 hours is non-refundable. This
policy is strictly enforced.
We do everything in our power to help you finish your class
project. Please do your part. We are unique in the sense that we
encourage you to come in for help between classes if you’re not
sure how to proceed. Book some table space and work here if need
be. All our staff is here to help, you only need to ask.
Most important is to relax and have fun. We encourage that
perfection not be your main goal. Perfection comes with time.
Relax and learn the technique.
Please purchase class supplies at least 48 hours prior to class.
This way, if we don’t have what you need or want we still have a
chance to get it. We do have extra rotary cutters, rulers and
boards available to borrow during class. Keep in mind that your
own measuring tools have their own unique measure so if you have
them, bring them.
We do not insist that you purchase your supplies at the Ultimate
Sewing Centre. We do however appreciate it and show our
appreciation with a generous class discount. Please take note
that if your fabric is not the right type or flawed we cannot
hold up the class correcting the problem. We will try, but there
are other students to tend to. Ultimate Sewing Centre
carries nothing but first quality fabrics at incredibly
competitive prices.
Please make sure that your sewing machine or serger is in good
working order. Repairs and service are available to all
makes and models. We cannot hold up class due to a
malfunctioning machine. Please make sure that your machine
is properly serviced. If servicing is required bring your
machine in one week prior to class.
Unless otherwise told please bring to each class: Sewing Machine
or Serger complete with foot control, lead cord and all
accessories. Extra bobbins and needles, paper and fabric
scissors, rotary cutter, all rulers, pins, seam ripper, marking
tools, notepad and pen or pencil. It is just sew much more
enjoyable to have all your tools at hand. Please mark you tools
sew that you know what’s yours.
We do everything in our power to help you finish your class
project. Please do your part. We are unique in the sense that we
encourage you to come in for help if you’re not sure how to
proceed. Book some table space and work here if need be. All our
staff is here to help, you only need to ask. For quilting
classes please understand that this class is for the quilt top
only. We have several “finishing classes”, and feel it
redundant to repeat the finishing each class. For the garment
classes you can expect to finish the garment, however, I wish to
remind you that fit is not part of the class. We do offer
fitting classes. This is pretty much the way all sewing studios
operate, we just prefer to be up front sew there are no hidden
surprises.
Coffee, tea and light refreshments are always available, if you
are taking a full day class please pack a light lunch.
